Be a Poll Worker

 

The Athens County Board of Elections is committed to conducting fair and impartial elections that are well organized and professionally managed.  This would not be possible without the hundreds of dedicated Poll Workers who serve on Election Day.

 

Poll Workers are always in great demand.  The Board hires approximately 350 dedicated, community minded individuals to work Election Day in Athens County. 

 

You are eligible to be a Poll Worker if you are:

  • A registered voter in Athens County
  • Enjoy working with people
  • Willing to attend a training session.
  • Have reliable transportation
  • Have never been convicted of a Felony
  • Available for Current election
  •

    Pollworker Pay (may vary from county to county)

    • Presiding Judge

               (determined by the number of votes cast in the last election for Governor in each Precinct)

     

               Election Day:                   $101.50     

               Training:                           $  20.00  

               Travel:                               $ 20.00 and up depending on precinct working

     

    • Judge

    Election Day Schedule\Duties

    • Report to work at 5:30 a.m. on Election Day ---Take Lunch, snacks and drinks as you will eat at your assigned precinct. 
    • Presiding Judges will pick up supplies at the Board of Elections the Saturday before the Election and return supplies, ballots and results to the Board of Elections election night.

    ELECTION NIGHT THE PRESIDING JUDGE MUST RETURN SUPPLIES WITH A JUDGE OF THE OPPOSITE PARTY

    • Open the voting machine
    • Check voter eligibility
    • Help voters
    • Close the voting machine (Polls close at 7:30 p.m.)
